This question has been puzzling me for quite some time now. Or put it the other way round, what is that additional trait an innovator has that sets her apart. Having read about a few of the greatest innovators and having met a few in the making, I am dangerously close to the answer!Hint ~ There is no one thing or characteristic. It's a sum of a few in the right proportion. But the one thing that I am talking about here, I believe runs as a common denominator.
It is- Looking for no external source of motivation or being self motivated!
Not looking outside of one-self for motivation doesn't mean that one doesn't get inspired from external sources. One does. These people do have role models, and people whom they aspire to become. The very fact that they don't need any external motivation, makes them immune to external de-motivation. In essense, their emotional underpinning is very much within themselves. True innovators are naturally rebellious and they have to whether a hostile environment at the work place, among family and friends, and even society. The great Gallileo comes to mind here.
These are not the good moments or successful ones that sets these people apart, these are the adversities of life or often the hostile society that makes them determined. These things are equally valid for anybody setting to take a non-conventional role in a corporate.
Remember ~ The gravity around you will always pull you towards the status quo, as it is least discomforting (for all). But one needs to amass that escape velocity and move to a new orbit. Not just move alone, but take the people along.
One might loose money, reputation, or even life in such an attempt, but anyways we all die some day!

i m agree with u sir, because those person motivate himself, they are the change leaders.they do not have fear of person those demotivate them and they not demotivate by them, and they also not care of person who motivate them, they do not go in overconfidence.
Is is literally possible for a single person to be an innovator. While innovation has always been work of a team, the denominator holds true for an inventor or to some extent a discoverer.
Not every great inventor has to be rebellious either. He or she just has to contain the positive cynicism inside that can very well lead to new in-sights at times.
