Top 100 Tech Companies- 2009

Here's another list that would throw up a few very interesting facts about an industry that relates to India more than any other- Technology.
Post 1991, when Indian economy liberated, it was the Technology Boom and specifically IT Services that took India to its current reputation. It's a discussion of different kind as to the fate of this industry!
Published by BusinessWeek, The Info Tech 100 gives a ranking of the best performing Tech companies from across the world.
Here's the top 10:
  • Amazon.com (US)
  • Oracle (US)
  • SAP (Germany)
  • Inventec (Taiwan)
  • IBM (US)
  • Bharti Airtel (India)
  • Quanta Computer (Taiwan)
  • Wistron (Taiwan)
  • Tencent Holdings (China)
  • Acer (Taiwan)

Interesting to know India based Bharti Airtel being in top 10, much ahead of Infosys(25), TCS (30) and Wipro (43).

While 43 companies come from US, there are a growing companies coming in from Asia.
Taiwan (10), Korea (6), China (5), India (4), Japan (3), and Hong Kong (2).
It's a humble indication that even in technology space there is enough and more competition coming in from our Asian brethren.
In terms of size, the five largest Technology Companies are: AT&T ($124 B); HP ($118 B); NTT ($107 B); IBM ($101 B); and Verizon ($100 B).
Though only one of these five companies are from outside US, the overall prominence of non-US or non-EU companies can't be overlooked. For instance, Taiwan is increasingly becoming a global hub for all electronic items and has been able to establish its own global brands too, such as Acer.
In services space too, Indian biggies are facing stiff competition coming in from Computershare of Australia and Dimension Data Holdings of S Africa, apart from the usual threat from the US based firms. A good comparison and an eye opener!
